About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage APQP product launch processes and gate review cycles
- Oversee check fixtures and supplier gauge management, including method plans and design reviews
- Monitor quality levels for prototypes, pre-production parts, and initial samples
- Act as the primary quality contact through the handover to production locations
- Facilitate technical risk reviews and document lessons learned
- Create and facilitate program team reviews of core tool documents (Process Flow, Control Plan, FMEA)
- Analyze inspection data from die and assembly builds
- Review new business quotes for potential quality risks
- Perform travel to gauge shops, customers, and plants (approximately 25%)
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Metallurgical Engineering (or 15 years of equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in a quality and engineering environment within the automotive industry
- Strong knowledge of AIAG 5 Core Tools (PPAP, APQP, MSA, SPC, and FMEA/VDA)
- Expertise in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and Significant Characteristics (SC)
- Proficiency in 8D problem-solving and decision-making
- Ability to navigate CAD software (Teamcenter, Viz View, AutoCAD, etc.)
- Understanding of IATF 16949 and GR&R requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and SAP
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) body of knowledge
- Experience with PlatoEins, CIM, or GoBench databases
