Quality Manager

About the Company

Orbital is an AI-first industrial company building hardware from the atoms up. We are developing critical hardware for AI data centers, including 2 Phase Direct to Chip cooling systems, to make them more performant and sustainable.

Responsibilities

• Source and qualify contract manufacturers and key suppliers through technical and commercial audits.
• Implement APQP, control plans, PFMEA/DFMEA alignment, and MSA at contract manufacturers.
• Establish supplier quality agreements, traceability schemas, and inspection instructions.
• Build and implement an ISO 9001-based Quality Management System (QMS).
• Design factory quality architecture, including in-process and final testing for CDUs and modular skids.
• Hire, train, and coach a team of inspectors, technicians, and quality engineers.
• Integrate quality processes with PLM, ERP, and MES systems.
• Manage reliability, failure analysis (5-Whys, fishbone), and warranty/RMA feedback loops.
• Drive continuous improvement through DOE, SPC, and yield improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• 8–12+ years of experience in complex electro-mechanical or thermal hardware quality.
• Experience with cooling or pressure systems (CDUs, cold plates, manifolds) or similar manufacturing.
• Mastery of APQP, DFMEA/PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, 8D/A3, and DOE.
• Proven experience in supplier quality leadership and QMS ownership (ISO 9001).
• Familiarity with using AI to improve and automate processes.
• Data fluency with tools like Minitab, advanced Excel, or BI tools.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with UL/CSA/CE/UKCA, EMC/LVD, and pressure equipment certifications (ASME/PED).
• Knowledge of refrigerant handling safety and RoHS/REACH documentation.
