Purchasing Specialist

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end buying cycle, including supplier sourcing, product selection, and vendor negotiation.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Japanese partners and local vendors.
• Collaborate with merchandising, marketing, and logistics teams to ensure timely product launches and stock availability.
• Monitor inventory performance and optimize purchasing strategies to improve gross margins and stock efficiency.
• Act as a key liaison between Japanese vendors, the Japan office, and the U.S. headquarters.
• Analyze market trends and customer needs to identify new product and brand opportunities.

Requirements

• 2 years of buying or sourcing experience, preferably in retail, e-commerce, or wholesale.
• Fluency in both Japanese and English (written and spoken).
• Proven expertise in vendor negotiation, cost management, and purchase planning.
• Deep understanding of Incoterms and global trade regulations.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales and inventory data.
• Proficiency in Excel and ERP or inventory management systems.
• Demonstrated understanding of Japanese business culture and supplier management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working specifically with Japanese brands and suppliers.
• Prior experience in J-beauty, home goods, or other Japanese consumer product categories.
• Knowledge of import/export trade terms, customs clearance, and international logistics.
• Experience localizing Japanese products for international consumers.
