About the role

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboring, equipment operation, and semi-skilled maintenance tasks for the repair and upkeep of municipal streets, premises, and property.
  • Build and set forms for concrete work including curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and storm sewers.
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as motor graders, backhoes, street sweepers, and tractors.
  • Clean and repair catch basins, manholes, culverts, and storm drains.
  • Perform snow removal from streets and sidewalks using graders, dump trucks, and snow blowers.
  • Maintain vegetation by trimming trees and brush and removing hazardous debris.
  • Install and maintain traffic signs, markers, and lights.
  • Assist in flood control and other emergency municipal services.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in road construction or public works settings.
  • Valid Iowa Class A CDL with air brake option (or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire).
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate heavy and specialized equipment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check, physical examination, and drug screen.
