Public Safety Support Specialist

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site maintenance and troubleshooting for personal computer hardware, peripherals, software, and network connections.
• Perform software installation, network configuration, and component diagnosis and replacement.
• Assist personnel with hardware, software, and network-related problems, including specialized public safety software.
• Conduct needs assessments for the fire district and police department to coordinate technology projects.
• Maintain accurate inventory of fire district and city-owned property and assist with recordkeeping.
• Research and recommend innovative technology trends to command staff with a focus on fiscal responsibility.
• Ensure the reliability of systems and electronic records for the retention of confidential law enforcement and human resources data.
• Manage technical systems including VoIP, wireless communications, door access, and building camera control systems.
• Support mobile electronic platforms, including Mobile Data Computers (MDC), scanners, printers, and GPS.

Requirements

• Associate's degree from an accredited college or technical school in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Three years of professional experience in computer science, network systems, or information technology.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Iowa driver's license.
• Ability to successfully pass a DCI background check.
• Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with public safety technology such as Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Mobile Data Computers (MDC).
• Knowledge of VoIP telephone systems and fiber optic data cabling.
• Experience troubleshooting vehicle upfitting components and mobile electronic platforms.
• Familiarity with cardiac monitors and Automatic External Defibrillators (AED).
