Public Safety Officer

Responsibilities

• Patrol campus buildings and grounds to promote safety and identify unsafe conditions or suspicious activity
• Respond to emergencies, fire alarms, medical emergencies, and campus conflicts as a first responder
• Manage incidents using problem-solving, mediation, and de-escalation strategies
• Conduct preliminary investigations and complete detailed, professional incident reports
• Educate the campus community on safety, security, and College policies
• Provide general security services including locking/unlocking buildings, gates, and vehicles
• Transport students to the Health and Wellness Center or local hospitals
• Maintain orderly campus parking lots and roadways through education and enforcement

Requirements

• High school diploma (post-secondary education preferred)
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass a College-administered driving test
• Ability to pass an extensive investigative background check
• Physical ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs occasionally
• Ability to walk long distances, climb stairs, and work in various weather conditions (snow, rain, heat)
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional long shifts or emergencies
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in conflict resolution

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in higher education, institutional safety and security, or law enforcement
