Public Safety Officer

Responsibilities

• Perform proactive foot, vehicle, and bicycle patrols to detect, deter, and prevent crimes and policy violations
• Respond to emergency calls including reports of crime, medical emergencies, and fire alarms
• Provide essential services such as personal safety escorts, lockouts, jump starts, and medical transports
• Enforce University policies, including parking regulations, and state/federal laws
• Document all activities and incidents in detail using an electronic records management system
• Provide shuttle transportation on specified routes and schedules
• Inspect and maintain department equipment, including radios, vehicles, computers, and uniforms
• Monitor campus lighting, grounds, and fire/life safety equipment

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of three years of work experience, including at least one year in a customer service or public-facing role
• Valid driver's license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle
• Proficiency in English (written and verbal) for communication via phone, radio, and face-to-face
• Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook
• Ability to pass a background screening, including criminal history, driving history, and a drug screen
• Ability to become certified in CPR/AED/First Responder within 12 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher
• Current PA Act 235 or 120 certification
• Current CPR/AED/First Responder certification
• Previous experience working in security on a college campus
• Knowledge of the Clery Act
