Public Safety Officer

Responsibilities

• Enforce university rules and regulations in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines
• Conduct patrols via foot, vehicle, or fixed posts to ensure campus security and property accountability
• Respond to calls for service, including disturbances, medical assists, and fire or burglar alarms
• Perform traffic control, parking enforcement, and student/faculty escorts
• Conduct initial investigations and prepare accurate, neat, and complete incident reports
• Secure buildings and classrooms by managing opening and closing procedures
• Maintain professional conduct and positive communication when interacting with a diverse campus community

Requirements

• Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Communication, or equivalent experience
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
• Ability to obtain and maintain CPR and Emergency First Aid certifications
• Ability to become a State of RI licensed EMT within two years of hire
• Ability to pass physical, criminal, and psychological evaluations
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including 2nd or 3rd shifts and overtime as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Minimum of three years of experience in law enforcement, military, security, or a related field
