About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate public records requests for the Sheriff’s Office in compliance with the Washington Public Records Act (RCW 42.56) and Clallam County Code
- Perform detailed records review, legal analysis, and redaction of exempt information to safeguard confidential and sensitive data
- Interpret complex records requests and coordinate with legal counsel, county departments, and outside agencies
- Review law enforcement, inmate, and medical records, which may include graphic or disturbing content
- Maintain accurate documentation, exemption logs, and redaction logs throughout the disclosure process
- Communicate with requestors regarding clarifications, payment for copies, and file assistance
- Maintain expertise in specialized records management software and stay current on legal updates affecting records release
Requirements
- Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from an accredited college or university with coursework in Office Management, Public Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a clerical field or related area specializing in records retention or public records
- Working knowledge of the Washington Public Records Act
- Ability to handle graphic and potentially disturbing content within law enforcement and medical records
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a Public Records Officer by the Washington State Association of Public Records Officials (to be obtained within four years of hire)
- Experience with specialized records storage, transmittal, and redaction software
