About the role
Responsibilities
- Inspect restaurants, bars, nightclubs, mobile food vendors, shelters, schools, and other establishments
- Enforce NYC Health Code, Smoke-Free Air Act, and Tobacco Product Regulation Act
- Review menus and menu boards for nutritional compliance
- Prepare inspection reports using handheld computers
- Issue summonses for violations and testify in hearings or court when required
- Travel throughout the five boroughs using mass transit
Requirements
- Baccalaureate degree with required science credits, or associate degree with science credits plus experience
- Knowledge of public health, sanitation, and food safety regulations
- Ability to perform inspections, documentation, and enforcement duties
- Willingness to travel across New York City
