Public Health Inspector

Responsibilities

• Inspect restaurants, bars, nightclubs, mobile food vendors, shelters, schools, and other establishments
• Enforce NYC Health Code, Smoke-Free Air Act, and Tobacco Product Regulation Act
• Review menus and menu boards for nutritional compliance
• Prepare inspection reports using handheld computers
• Issue summonses for violations and testify in hearings or court when required
• Travel throughout the five boroughs using mass transit

Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree with required science credits, or associate degree with science credits plus experience
• Knowledge of public health, sanitation, and food safety regulations
• Ability to perform inspections, documentation, and enforcement duties
• Willingness to travel across New York City
