Public Defender

Responsibilities

• Independently manage a caseload and provide effective legal assistance to indigent persons in Grant County Superior Court, District Court, and the Juvenile Division.
• Comply with all performance guidelines and the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) Standards of Public Defense.
• Prepare for various legal proceedings, including pretrial hearings, motions, trials, post-trial hearings, show cause, and reviews.
• Conduct significant reading and analysis of discovery, interview witnesses, and work collaboratively with the court, colleagues, and investigators.
• Negotiate plea bargains in the best interest of clients.
• Maintain a deep commitment to protecting the constitutional rights of individuals and the community.

Requirements

• Admitted member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association.
• Ability to handle high-volume caseloads effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior trial experience.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a high volume of cases.
• Strong computer literacy and communication skills.
• Experience working effectively as part of a professional team.
