Psychiatric Counselor

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct care to psychiatric patients and interact with their support networks and multi-disciplinary teams.
• Conduct patient intakes, including pre-admission assessments, admission forms, and patient rights documentation.
• Plan and implement care in collaboration with the treatment team and contribute to Master Treatment Plans.
• Facilitate educational, focus, and expressive therapy groups for adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
• Perform milieu management and assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) under nursing direction.
• Conduct telephone screenings to determine appropriate patient disposition.
• Communicate any incidents regarding patient or staff safety to the Manager or Charge Nurse.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• One year of experience in a behavioral health unit or one completed semester of internship in a behavioral health field.
• CPR – Basic Life Support certification.
• Ability to complete de-escalation training within six months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a behavioral health science field.
• Experience in mental health and substance abuse treatment.
