Psychiatric Advanced Practice Provider

Responsibilities

• Provide behavioral health treatment and clinical assessment within a dedicated Behavioral Health Unit for patients with serious mental illness.
• Assess patients and support treatment within a structured, wrap-around therapeutic milieu.
• Manage suicide watch precautions, including adding, removing, or reducing precautions as authorized.
• Coordinate with the Admissions Review Panel and facility leadership for patient review, placement, and continuity of care.
• Deliver care using trauma-informed practices and evidence-based behavioral health approaches.
• Document patient care in the electronic health record, including mental health assessments and transfer documentation.
• Participate in quality improvement, risk management, and emergency response readiness activities.

Requirements

• Unrestricted Texas license (PA or PMHNP) or the ability to obtain one.
• DEA licensure in Texas to prescribe controlled medications or the ability to obtain one.
• Minimum of 2 years post-licensure clinical experience in psychiatry.
• Accredited PA or PMHNP degree from an approved institution.
• NCCPA (for PAs) or ANCC (for PMHNPs) board certification.
• BLS Certification.
• Ability to pass a thorough background investigation and obtain required security clearances.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a detention, correctional, or residential healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of forensic psychiatry concepts and principles.
• Certification as a Correctional Healthcare Professional (CCHP).
• Proficiency in Spanish.
• Knowledge of NCCHC and PBNDS requirements.
