Project Manager - BESS

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of utility-scale BESS projects from construction through commissioning and handover.
• Act as Client Representative under EPC and BoP contracts, managing contractor performance and commercial compliance.
• Oversee technical integration of BESS containers, PCS, HV substations, and grid transformers.
• Manage project risks, costs, and programmes, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and grid connection agreements.
• Ensure strict compliance with UK CDM regulations, QHSE standards, and environmental/planning conditions.
• Coordinate with various stakeholders including BESS OEMs, ICPs, and subcontractors to ensure successful project energisation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5–10 years of experience delivering utility-scale energy infrastructure projects.
• Direct experience managing BESS projects and HV substations (33kV–132kV+).
• Proven experience in EPC contract administration and managing grid-connected assets.
• Strong working knowledge of UK CDM regulations.
• Must be UK-based with the existing right to work in the UK.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional certifications such as APM PMQ, PRINCE2, or equivalent.
• SMSTS or equivalent construction management qualification.
• Advanced skills in programme management and structured risk management.
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to effectively challenge EPC/OEM contractors.
