About the role

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, design, programming, testing, debugging, and documentation of programs to solve complex business problems for the New Jersey State Cancer Registry.
  • Apply conversions and enhancements to cancer surveillance and research systems.
  • Develop and manage project plans and training programs.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify opportunities for AI/ML adoption and translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging AI technologies, including Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP).
  • Act as a liaison between information technology departments and end-user communities.
  • Generate queries and analytic programs using common programming languages such as SQL and SAS.
  • Evaluate and recommend hardware and software solutions to improve system performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 4 years of progressive technology experience and increasing responsibility.
  • Proficiency in SQL and other programming tools/methodologies.
  • Understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts, including Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work on-site in Trenton, NJ, with regular travel to New Brunswick, NJ.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in programming languages and frameworks used for AI development (e.g., Python, R, TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
  • Familiarity with complex information systems architecture and electronic health data standards.
  • Experience with relational databases and analytic software tools such as SAS.
  • Knowledge of cancer surveillance processes, epidemiology, or cancer registry data.
