Professor of Veterinary Medicine and Director of Shelter Medicine Postgraduate Programs

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and oversee advanced postgraduate training programs in shelter medicine, including internships and residencies.
• Develop and deliver advanced curriculum and clinical training using innovative methodologies like case-based instruction and simulation.
• Provide direct instruction, mentorship, and supervision to postgraduate trainees in shelter and community-based clinical environments.
• Ensure all curricula align with specialty board certification standards and professional competencies.
• Foster scholarly activity through clinical research, data collection, and manuscript preparation.
• Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations.
• Manage program operations, including maintaining instructional resources, trainee records, and accreditation compliance.
• Build partnerships with local and national shelters, humane organizations, and veterinary networks.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
• Eligibility for veterinary licensure in the state of Florida.
• Specialty board certification (ABVP-Shelter Medicine or another specialty approved by ABVP for advising residents).
• Documented experience in shelter medicine clinical practice.
• Proven experience mentoring or teaching veterinary students, interns, or residents.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree (MS, MPH, PhD, or equivalent) in a relevant field.
• Experience in program leadership or administration within academic or clinical settings.
• Evidence of scholarly activity, including publications or presentations in shelter medicine.
