About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and oversee advanced postgraduate training programs in shelter medicine, including internships and residencies.
- Develop and deliver advanced curriculum and clinical training using innovative methodologies like case-based instruction and simulation.
- Provide direct instruction, mentorship, and supervision to postgraduate trainees in shelter and community-based clinical environments.
- Ensure all curricula align with specialty board certification standards and professional competencies.
- Foster scholarly activity through clinical research, data collection, and manuscript preparation.
- Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations.
- Manage program operations, including maintaining instructional resources, trainee records, and accreditation compliance.
- Build partnerships with local and national shelters, humane organizations, and veterinary networks.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
- Eligibility for veterinary licensure in the state of Florida.
- Specialty board certification (ABVP-Shelter Medicine or another specialty approved by ABVP for advising residents).
- Documented experience in shelter medicine clinical practice.
- Proven experience mentoring or teaching veterinary students, interns, or residents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MS, MPH, PhD, or equivalent) in a relevant field.
- Experience in program leadership or administration within academic or clinical settings.
- Evidence of scholarly activity, including publications or presentations in shelter medicine.
