About the role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct applied, policy-relevant urban economic research with a focus on Latin American and Mexican cities.
  • Develop an independent research agenda contributing to the Center for the Future of Cities.
  • Collaborate on large-scale applied projects involving administrative, geospatial, and mobility datasets.
  • Produce high-impact academic publications and policy-oriented outputs.
  • Engage with real-world urban challenges and policy processes.
  • Perform teaching duties within the department of economics as required by profile and interest.

Requirements

  • PhD in Economics or a related field (candidates completing PhD by September 2026 are welcome).
  • Strong quantitative training and advanced econometrics skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in urban economics, spatial analysis, or general equilibrium modeling.
  • Ability to work with complex datasets and computational modeling.
  • Proven potential for high-impact academic publishing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with spatial patterns of jobs and housing location.
  • Expertise in property taxes, housing finance, or spatial segregation.
  • Knowledge of the fiscal impacts of urban sprawl and land-use regulation.
