Product Engineer

About the Company

Blacksmith builds infrastructure to run CI workloads faster and cheaper by operating a global fleet of bare-metal machines. They orchestrate tens of millions of Firecracker VMs monthly and are expanding their CI infrastructure into a broader platform for agent sandboxes and background coding agents.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve Codesmith, a background coding agent, including workflows, UI, and infrastructure
• Create tools to help engineers and AI agents debug flaky CI jobs by correlating logs and infrastructure signals
• Work with design to ship polished, high-performance product surfaces for analytics and observability
• Prototype and iterate on AI-powered features, from prompt design to backend services and UI
• Contribute to the architecture of the agent platform and sandboxed workspace orchestration

Requirements

• 3+ years of software development experience
• Strong CS fundamentals
• Deep understanding of React and modern frontend development
• Ability to build polished, high-performance UIs and optimize browser performance
• Comfortable working in person 5 days a week in NYC
• Ability to thrive in an early-stage startup environment with ambiguity

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with side hustles or startup projects
• Ability to create and iterate on new processes quickly
