Product Design Manager

Responsibilities

• Lead design and shape product direction across OpenAI’s Foundational Systems, including Payments, Identity & Access, and developer tools.
• Manage and grow a team of product designers, fostering a culture of craft, ownership, and high performance.
• Set a high bar for design quality to deliver clear, cohesive, and trustworthy user experiences.
• Drive consistency and alignment across complex, interconnected consumer and enterprise systems.
• Partner closely with engineering, product, and research teams to shape long-term strategy and near-term execution.
• Identify and prioritize shared capabilities to unlock scale across the OpenAI ecosystem.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience managing and growing high-performing product design teams.
• Strong portfolio showcasing excellence in designing and shipping at scale, with a focus on user-centered thinking and craft.
• Proven experience working on technical, highly cross-functional products alongside engineering and infrastructure teams.
• Deep expertise in systems thinking and the ability to bring clarity to fragmented surfaces.
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills to align teams around a shared vision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience rethinking fundamental UI patterns from first principles to create AI-native interactions.
• Ability to operate across multiple altitudes, from defining pixel-perfect details to shaping system architecture.
• Comfort navigating ambiguous, high-leverage problems and turning them into actionable direction.
