Product Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Research and develop advanced product design processes, including design optimization, plastic assembly design, and numerical analysis.
• Perform Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tasks such as structural, vibration, heat flow, and deformation analysis.
• Act as a technical liaison between LG Chem and clients in the automotive, home appliance, and consumer product industries.
• Design experiments and testing methods using FEA tools like ABAQUS, ANSYS, or LS-Dyna.
• Investigate new technologies to find practical solutions for customer-facing product design problems.
• Prepare technical reports, data summaries, and documentation for stakeholders.
• Manage laboratory equipment, materials, and facilities, including the establishment of SOPs.
• Collaborate with headquarters to develop technical roadmaps and host product design seminars.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Aerospace, Automotive, Precision Engineering, etc.).
• 5+ years of experience in product design, FEA/CAE analysis, or advanced material testing, preferably within the automotive OEM or Tier 1 sectors.
• Proficiency with FEA programs such as ABAQUS, NASTRAN, LS-Dyna, or ANSYS.
• Experience with 2D/3D modeling tools including CATIA, Solidworks, AutoCAD, or Fusion 360.
• Strong knowledge of thermoplastic materials and evaluation tools (UTM, Fatigue, Creep, etc.).
• Excellent communication, coordination, and technical presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Hyperworks (Hypermesh) and Design of Experiments (DOE).
• Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Experience coaching or mentoring junior staff and sales teams.
• Strategic management competency with the ability to identify trends and forecast technical needs.
• Willingness to travel as required for customer support and collaboration.
