Process Safety Engineer

Responsibilities

• Administer PSM and major hazard risk management workflows, including risk study planning, facilitation, and documentation
• Lead or support PHAs, HAZOPs, HAZIDs, LOPAs, and other structured risk reviews for lab, pilot, and operating systems
• Support Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) processes
• Review PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and control narratives to identify process safety implications
• Provide engineering input on life safety, fire protection, ventilation, and emergency shutdown systems
• Partner with internal SMEs and external engineers to translate code requirements into actionable design requirements
• Develop and maintain process safety information, hazard registers, and safeguard libraries
• Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action development
• Support broader Health & Safety initiatives including HazCom, contractor safety, and emergency response planning

Requirements

• B.S. or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, Mining, Metallurgy, Fire Protection, or Safety Engineering
• 5+ years of experience in process safety, process engineering, plant design, or risk management
• Hands-on experience facilitating PHAs, HAZOPs, HAZIDs, LOPAs, MOC, or PSSR
• Ability to interpret PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, and equipment data sheets
• Working knowledge of OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, NFPA standards, and hazardous materials management
• Strong technical writing and meeting facilitation skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional certifications such as PE, CSP, CCPSC, or CFPS
• Specialized training in HAZOP/LOPA facilitation
• Experience with pilot plants, lab-scale hazards, or scale-up projects
