About the role
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead for downstream processes and unit operations, including process modeling and throughput assessments
- Lead process design reviews for large capital projects, including the development of P&IDs, layouts, and user requirement specifications
- Manage equipment design and procurement support, including specification selection, FAT/SAT, installation, and commissioning
- Consult on automation and controls design, instrumentation selection, and equipment interface
- Support chemical development in the characterization and scale-up of innovative oligonucleotide production processes
- Perform Building Information Model (BIM) reviews for process piping, equipment, and cleanroom spatial planning
- Execute process startup, commissioning, and qualification activities
- Support EHS activities including PHA, PSSR, and PSM compliance
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent education/experience
- 8+ years of experience in the pharma, biopharma, or fine chemicals industry
- 6+ years of experience managing medium to large-sized projects through all phases (design, procurement, installation, and qualification)
- Proficiency with P&IDs, facility layouts, mass and energy balances, and solvent handling
- Experience with equipment design and user requirement specifications (URS)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with oligonucleotide manufacturing downstream unit operations (column packing, chromatography, ultrafiltration, etc.)
- Familiarity with ASME BPE sanitary piping and equipment design standards
- Knowledge of industrial control systems such as SCADA, PLCs, and BAS
- Experience with validation documentation including IQ/OQ/PQ protocols
- Familiarity with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) program requirements
