Process Development Engineer III, AI and Data Science

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operationalize AI and Data Science models to accelerate biologics development and manufacturing.
• Build and deploy AI/ML-powered solutions, including digital twins and advanced predictive modeling for cell culture and purification.
• Explore and prototype GenAI approaches, such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), to enhance decision support and knowledge management.
• Collaborate with process engineers, IT, and manufacturing teams to coordinate advanced modeling efforts enterprise-wide.
• Translate complex bioprocess questions into quantitative modeling strategies to inform scale-up and tech transfer.
• Mentor citizen data scientists and champion best practices in model development and code quality.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field with 0-2+ years of industrial experience, OR a Master’s degree with 7+ years of experience.
• Expert programming proficiency in Python.
• Experience with statistical or computational tools such as JMP, SIMCA, or MATLAB.
• Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to multidisciplinary stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with cloud analytics platforms like Dataiku or Databricks.
• Strong knowledge of Quality-by-Design (QbD) principles and Design-of-Experiments (DoE).
• Familiarity with PAT, chemometric modeling (e.g., Raman spectroscopy), and GenAI stacks (LLMs, vector databases).
• Understanding of operation research techniques, such as combinatorial or linear programming.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL data systems.
• Mechanistic understanding of upstream and/or downstream bioprocess unit operations.
