About the role
Responsibilities
- Advise on global privacy and data protection laws including CCPA/CPRA and GDPR
- Provide business-focused guidance on personal data collection, use, and protection
- Support development and maintenance of privacy policies and internal governance
- Partner with product, engineering, and data teams to implement privacy by design
- Review privacy implications of new products, features, and emerging technologies like AI
- Review and negotiate privacy provisions in commercial agreements and vendor contracts
- Monitor evolving privacy laws and advise on business impacts
- Support data subject requests and regulatory inquiries
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in the United States
- 6–9 years of legal experience with a focus on privacy and data protection
- Experience providing product counseling to engineering and technical teams
- Strong ability to translate complex legal requirements into actionable guidance
Preferred Qualifications
- Combination of law firm and in-house experience
- Experience supporting consumer-facing, retail, or global technology businesses
- IAPP Certifications (CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM)
- Familiarity with international privacy laws and cross-border data issues
