About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Firm’s global privacy programme to ensure compliance with international data protection laws.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Compliance to identify and implement organizational privacy policies and procedures.
  • Support relevant committees, including the Cyber and Data Governance Committee and the AI and Technology Strategy group.
  • Perform Privacy Risk Assessments (PRAs), Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), and other compliance monitoring activities.
  • Maintain appropriate privacy statements and manage the personal data processing catalog (including Article 30 registers).
  • Assist in developing and delivering privacy training to attorneys and professional staff.
  • Manage data subject access requests (DSARs), queries, and complaints regarding personal data handling.
  • Oversee the investigation, containment, and regulatory notification processes for data breaches and incidents.
  • Review and negotiate privacy-specific agreements, including data processing and transfer agreements.
  • Serve as the Firm’s statutory privacy officer or Data Protection Officer (DPO) as required.

Requirements

  • Law degree from an accredited law school and a valid license to practice law.
  • Minimum of six years of relevant work experience in privacy law or compliance.
  • Strong understanding of EU/UK GDPR and its practical application in a global business context.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating privacy-specific agreements and data processing clauses.
  • Proven experience handling data subject access requests and managing data breaches/incidents.
  • Ability to translate complex legal concepts for non-legal audiences and manage competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience advising on privacy laws in the USA, Hong Kong, Singapore, ADGM, DIFC, Saudi Arabia, or PRC.
  • Professional privacy certification such as CIPP, CIPT, or ISEB.
  • Experience working within a global law firm, professional services, or regulated financial services environment.
