About the role
Responsibilities
- Advise business, product, engineering, and legal stakeholders on privacy and data protection requirements, including GLBA, CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, and FCRA.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to conduct risk assessments and implement scalable privacy-by-design controls across the product lifecycle.
- Advise on banking-as-a-service (BaaS) program structures and privacy compliance across sponsor banks, processors, and third-party partners.
- Draft, review, and negotiate privacy and data protection terms in commercial and technology agreements, including data use and vendor contracts.
- Lead partner and vendor negotiations on privacy matters and participate in client-facing discussions regarding contractual risk.
- Develop and maintain privacy policies, notices, procedures, and training materials to support consistent operational practices.
- Monitor changes in privacy laws and translate legal requirements into actionable guidance for internal stakeholders.
Requirements
- 6+ years of legal practice experience with a substantial focus on privacy, data protection, or financial services regulation.
- Experience advising on financial privacy laws and frameworks, such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and various U.S. state privacy laws.
- Proven experience drafting and negotiating commercial, technology, or data protection agreements within regulated environments like banking or payments.
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction in good standing.
- Juris Doctor (JD) or Master of Laws (LLM) from an accredited law school.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) or equivalent certification.
- Experience supporting embedded finance, banking-as-a-service, or partner-based financial product models.
- Experience advising on complex multi-party partner ecosystems involving sponsor banks and consumer-facing technology companies.
- Familiarity with operationalizing privacy-by-design practices in product development environments.
