Prison Education Specialist

Responsibilities

• Serve as a liaison between Sinclair Community College and the Chillicothe Correctional Institution administration, warden, and educational staff
• Assess instructional needs and collaborate with SCC department chairs to develop and implement certificate programs for incarcerated learners
• Orient instructional faculty to the unique requirements of teaching in a correctional setting and working with diverse adult learners
• Oversee support services for students, including placement testing, academic advising, registration, textbooks, and tutoring
• Supervise the assistant coordinator in managing day-to-day operational activities
• Ensure all programs and equipment delivery comply with the policies of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC) and SCC
• Maintain accurate records and provide timely reports to all relevant stakeholders

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required
• Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in a correctional, law enforcement, or higher education setting
• Proven ability to exercise leadership and develop educational programs within a complex correctional environment
• Working knowledge of the criminal justice system
• Strong professional oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with diverse constituents, including faculty, administrators, and incarcerated individuals
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn college-related databases
• Ability to pass a DRC background check

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree
• Previous experience in a supervisory role
• Previous experience working within an educational setting
