Principal Systems Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end architecture of the data path from image acquisition to final processed output
• Design pipeline stages with clear interfaces, flow control, and backpressure mechanisms
• Develop and optimize real-time image acquisition from high-speed sensors
• Implement GPU compute pipelines using CUDA for signal and image processing
• Design and implement job queuing, scheduling, and orchestration across instrument, local HPC, and cloud compute
• Configure and tune Linux systems for reliable, high-throughput operation
• Co-design the HPC compute platform architecture with DevOps
• Instrument pipeline stages with metrics, logging, and tracing for observability

Requirements

• PhD with 10+ years, MS with 14+ years, or BS with 17+ years of experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• 15+ years of professional software engineering experience in performance-critical systems
• Expert-level C/C++ and systems programming on Linux
• Solid experience with CUDA programming and GPU pipeline development
• Strong understanding of computer architecture including CPU caches, NUMA, memory hierarchies, PCIe, and DMA
• Experience with Python for tooling and orchestration
• Experience with performance profiling tools like perf, ftrace, or Nsight
• Experience designing multi-stage data pipelines with flow control and buffering
• Experience optimizing data transfer across high-speed networks like RDMA or InfiniBand

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with high-throughput diagnostic or scientific instrument data pipelines
• Experience with GPUDirect RDMA or hardware offload technologies
• Familiarity with real-time or low-latency Linux variants
• Background in scientific computing, computational physics, or bioinformatics
• Experience designing systems spanning embedded software and datacenter infrastructure
