Principal Systems Engineer

Responsibilities

• Participate in early-phase system exploration, including needs finding, concept definition, and problem framing for new medical technologies.
• Translate unmet clinical needs and user insights into system concepts, value propositions, and early technical hypotheses.
• Define system boundaries, use cases, operating environments, and high-level architectures for novel product concepts.
• Facilitate structured exploration through concept workshops, scenario analysis, and system trade-off discussions across cross-functional stakeholders.
• Identify early technical risks and support the creation of risk statements and proposed mitigations.
• Plan and execute feasibility experiments and prototypes to generate evidence and reduce technical uncertainty.
• Mentor junior engineers on systems thinking and structured problem-solving.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, or Systems Engineering.
• 9 to 13 years of relevant experience in medical device development or other regulated product development environments.
• Demonstrated experience with systems engineering methods, including requirements thinking and risk framing.
• Experience working on multi-disciplinary systems involving mechanical, electrical, software, or firmware components.
• Exposure to early-stage innovation, advanced development, or feasibility and prototyping environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, or Systems Engineering.
