About the role
Responsibilities
- Support the development and sustainment of the STARS air traffic control system through hardware engineering, software development, and technical testing.
- Work onsite at the FAA’s William J. Hughes Technical Center, collaborating directly with customers to drive innovation and solve technical challenges.
- Verify system requirements by developing compliance artifacts and acceptance documentation to ensure high standards of performance and safety.
- Perform systems deployment, troubleshooting, bug fixes, and technical documentation for both hardware and software enhancements.
- Collaborate with multi-level engineering teams, program management, and external stakeholders to support project costs and schedules.
Requirements
- STEM degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree with 5+ years of experience.
- Proven experience working in Linux environments.
- U.S. citizenship is required for access to program information.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in Air Traffic Control, Airspace/Aircraft Services, or Technical Operations.
- Knowledge of Layer 2 and 3 networking (VLANs, STP, routing protocols) and experience with network hardware (Cisco, Juniper, etc.).
- Programming skills in C, C++, Python, or modeling tools like MATLAB.
- Experience with configuration management tools such as Jira, Jenkins, Git, or Bitbucket.
- Experience with cloud-based systems, containers, and virtual machines.
- Experience supporting FAA government contracts or working with Red Hat Linux.
