Principal Software Engineer - Real-Time Voice

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and technical roadmap for Voice/VoIP infrastructure, including SIP trunking and real-time audio pipelines
• Design for low-latency, high-availability voice at enterprise scale across global telephony carriers
• Drive technical decisions on protocols such as SIP, SDP, RTP/SRTP, WebRTC, and ICE
• Partner with AI/ML teams to optimize integration between voice infrastructure and conversational AI models
• Diagnose and resolve systemic issues in call quality, latency, jitter, and packet loss
• Mentor senior and staff engineers to act as a technical multiplier
• Evaluate and integrate with telephony providers and SIP trunk vendors

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience
• 5+ years hands-on experience with production Voice/VoIP, SIP, WebRTC, or carrier-grade infrastructure
• Deep knowledge of SIP, SDP, RTP/SRTP, RTCP, WebRTC, ICE, and STUN/TURN
• Understanding of audio codecs including Opus and G.711/G.722
• Experience with production SIP-based infrastructure (e.g., Kamailio, FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, pjsip)
• Strong systems programming skills in Go, C, C++, or Rust
• Proficiency with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Kubernetes
• Experience with voice-quality observability and call-quality metrics (MOS)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with telephony carriers or PSTN integrations at scale
• A genuine interest in AI and conversational technology
