Principal Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Define the multi-year technical strategy and architecture for how Nike consumes Marketplace and Nike Direct data across the enterprise.
• Design governed consumption layers, including APIs, ontology/semantic models, and agentic/AI-powered analytics surfaces.
• Drive a single source of truth for data by leading the simplification and unification of the data products landscape.
• Set engineering standards for testing, observability, security, and performance across the organization.
• Mentor Lead and Senior engineers and represent the organization in cross-Nike architecture and governance forums.
• Write and ship code for high-leverage technical problems to maintain credible decision-making.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software and data engineering experience, including leadership roles at large-scale, data-driven companies.
• Mastery of backend languages such as Java, Python, or Scala.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, data modeling, and API design.
• Architect-level fluency with modern data platforms like Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, or Iceberg.
• Experience with streaming systems such as Kafka or Flink.
• Strong cloud architecture expertise in AWS, GCP, or Azure, focusing on security, cost, and resilience.
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading data-product platforms at retail, commerce, or consumer scale.
• Published technical writing or significant open-source contributions.
• Proven track record of driving large-scale system migrations and decommissions.
