Principal Software Engineer - Mobile Platform

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction for the hybrid stack, building architecture for React and React Native runtimes
• Ship production code to real users within the first six months
• Build mobile capabilities and fundamentals for the next decade of Canva's mobile experience
• Lead with code by staying hands-on and pushing production commits
• Influence product groups to adopt new architectural patterns
• Mentor Staff and Senior engineers and oversee their architectural decisions

Requirements

• Proven expertise in building or evolving large-scale hybrid mobile architectures in production
• Experience leading meaningful migrations of mature mobile products onto new architectures
• Principal-level leadership experience navigating unknown technical problems across a company
• Deep cross-platform fluency across iOS, Android, and Web
• Active individual contributor capable of daily coding and committing
• Proficiency in React Native at scale
• Strong understanding of mobile runtimes, bundle delivery, and performance profiling
• Solid computer science fundamentals including data structures and complexity

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with system languages like Rust or C for portable libraries
• Open-source contributions to React Native, Expo, or the cross-platform ecosystem
• Experience with mobile CI/CD, release trains, and over-the-air updates
• AI fluency and experience with agentic orchestration
