Principal Software Engineer - Mobile Platform

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction for the hybrid stack, building architecture for React and React Native
• Ship production code to real users within the first six months
• Define and build mobile capabilities for the next decade of Canva's development
• Lead with hands-on code, including writing and pushing commits to production
• Influence product groups by partnering with teams that integrate into the hybrid application
• Mentor Staff and Senior engineers and oversee their architectural decisions

Requirements

• Experience building or evolving large-scale hybrid mobile architectures in production
• Proven track record of leading meaningful migrations of mature mobile products onto new architectures
• Principal-level leadership experience navigating unknown technical problems and driving consensus
• Deep mobile fundamentals across both iOS and Android platforms
• Ability to maintain active individual contribution through daily coding
• Fluency in using AI agentic orchestration in professional workflows
• Strong engineering fundamentals including data structures and complexity

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with system languages like Rust or C for portable libraries
• Open-source contributions to React Native, Expo, or the cross-platform ecosystem
• Experience managing mobile CI/CD, release trains, and over-the-air updates at scale
