Principal Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural evolution of the Workers control plane and define multi-year strategy
• Identify high-leverage technical challenges and turn ambiguous problems into actionable engineering paths
• Re-engineer core services to handle exponential traffic growth
• Architect foundational primitives to unlock new product capabilities
• Own the stability and efficiency of core customer-facing systems
• Establish rigorous benchmarks for API responsiveness, availability, and reliability
• Participate in on-call rotations to maintain global platform availability
• Collaborate with Product and engineering leadership on future roadmaps
• Mentor mid-level and senior engineers and raise engineering standards

Requirements

• Deep experience using Go in production environments
• Experience with JavaScript and TypeScript
• Experience with Kubernetes and observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana)
• Proven history of architecting and managing massive distributed infrastructures
• Track record of owning architecture across multiple teams from concept to global release
• Strong ability to design and evolve RESTful APIs
• Demonstrated organizational influence through design leadership and mentoring
• Experience increasing team leverage using AI-assisted development workflows

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with C++ or Rust
• Experience working on a control plane or data plane
• Experience using Cloudflare Workers or Pages
• Experience with frontend frameworks like React
• Familiarity with GraphQL and RPC
• Product mindset and comfort interacting with customers
