Principal Scientist, Upstream Process Development

Responsibilities

• Design and execute highly efficient upstream production strategies for lentiviral vectors
• Direct the development and optimization of upstream processes including seed train expansion, suspension mammalian cell culture, and transient transfection
• Establish and validate robust bioreactor scale-up and scale-down models
• Direct the translation of bench-scale processes to GMP manufacturing and provide troubleshooting support
• Lead the execution of study protocols to define operating parameters and feeding strategies
• Author and review technical documents including development reports, SOPs, and CMC sections for regulatory submissions
• Collaborate with Downstream and Analytical Development teams to ensure integrated process outcomes
• Guide a team of scientists in project-specific activities

Requirements

• Advanced degree (PhD preferred, or MS) in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Virology, Molecular Biology, or related field
• 8+ years (PhD) or 10+ years (MS) of experience in process development or manufacturing in biotech/pharma
• Deep hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture (HEK293, HEK293T) and transient transfection for viral vectors
• Proven expertise in bioreactor scale-up and scale-down models
• Strong understanding of GMP manufacturing requirements and CMC strategies
• Knowledge of engineering modeling, mass transfer, and bioprocess optimization
• Experience handling large-scale (>50L) upstream bioreactor processes preferred
