Principal Scientist/Senior Principal Scientist, Process Chemistry

Responsibilities

• Lead process chemistry efforts, including the design, development, and scale-up of chemical syntheses for novel veterinary therapeutics.
• Independently design and optimize synthetic processes from milligram to multi-kilogram scale.
• Apply green chemistry principles to API process design to minimize waste and improve efficiency.
• Develop and execute impurity control strategies to ensure product quality and regulatory compliance.
• Lead technology transfer activities to commercial manufacturing facilities.
• Mentor and supervise colleagues, providing guidance, coaching, and career development support.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive digital transformation and continuous process improvement.
• Contribute to intellectual property strategy and the protection of small molecule IP.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry.
• Minimum of 8 years of industry experience in pharmaceutical or veterinary medicine R&D.
• At least 2 years of leadership experience managing teams or projects.
• Broad expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry and chemical literature searching.
• Extensive hands-on experience in process chemistry scale-up and technology transfer.
• Proficiency in compound characterization and spectral analysis (HPLC, GC, NMR, UV, LC-MS).
• Working knowledge of ICH guidelines and cGMP requirements.
• Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and Quality by Design (QbD) concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Post-doctoral research experience.
• Experience within the animal health industry or veterinary medicine drug development.
• Experience with continuous flow manufacturing processes.
• Experience with data analytics, digital transformation, and the use of AI/ML in Process Chemistry.
