Principal Scientist

Responsibilities

• Serve as the enterprise subject matter expert for analytical chemistry across beverage, food, ingredient, flavor, packaging, and product development initiatives
• Lead analytical strategy for innovation, product development, reformulation, troubleshooting, and compliance
• Develop, optimize, validate, and maintain fit-for-purpose analytical methods
• Apply advanced scientific judgment to interpret complex analytical data and identify technical risks
• Provide technical leadership in the use of analytical platforms such as GC/TOF, HPLC, LC/MS, and FTIR
• Partner with R&D, Quality, Food Safety, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams to solve technical challenges
• Manage, coach, and mentor laboratory technicians and junior scientists
• Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, including workflow coordination and equipment readiness
• Maintain standards for laboratory safety, GLP, SOP compliance, and data integrity
• Champion the adoption of new instrumentation, digital systems, and AI-enabled approaches

Requirements

• M.S. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Food Science, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific discipline
• Ph.D. preferred
• 7+ years of experience in an analytical laboratory, R&D, or related scientific environment
• Experience in food, beverage, flavor, ingredient, or CPG industries strongly preferred
• Expertise in method development, validation, and troubleshooting
• Hands-on experience with GC/TOF, HPLC, LC/MS, GCxGC, FTIR, ICP/MS, and spectroscopy
• Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and mentor junior staff
• Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, GLP, and SOPs
• Ability to communicate complex scientific information to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to travel domestically as business needs require
