Principal Research Scientist, Scaling

Responsibilities

• Lead research programs on foundation model efficiency, scaling, and inference optimization
• Guide a multidisciplinary team of researchers and engineers
• Design and run large-scale experiments and benchmarks
• Collaborate with product, systems, and infrastructure teams to productionize research
• Publish and represent Databricks AI externally through conferences and collaborations

Requirements

• Proven research leadership in ML or AI
• Deep expertise in LLMs, distributed ML systems, or model optimization
• Strong Python and PyTorch programming skills
• Experience translating research into scalable product capabilities
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience at the intersection of systems and ML
• Publications or open-source contributions in top ML or systems venues
• Background in distributed training, compiler, or kernel optimization
