Principal R&D Informatics and Scientific Systems Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own hands-on configuration, support, and continuous improvement of the scientific software environment, including ELN/registry platforms like Benchling
• Manage scientific data models and schemas to ensure consistent mapping across integrated scientific and engineering systems
• Partner with wet lab and dry lab teams to translate experimental processes and sequencing workflows into platform configurations
• Support and enable scientific AI tooling and help scientists adopt AI capabilities within scientific systems
• Define and enforce scientific data capture standards, metadata consistency, and workflow consistency
• Provide user support, training, documentation, and troubleshooting for scientific systems

Requirements

• Scientific background in biology, chemistry, or related life sciences
• Experience configuring or supporting ELN, LIMS, registry, or scientific workflow platforms (e.g., Benchling)
• Familiarity with scientific platform APIs, data warehouses, and integration patterns
• Data modeling skills including designing schemas and entity relationships
• Proficiency in Python for scripting and data manipulation
• Familiarity with AWS cloud services (S3, EC2, Lambda, RDS)
• Experience translating experimental processes into system requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with LLM-based assistants or AI-enabled scientific software
• Familiarity with software engineering practices such as git, testing, and release management
• Experience with genomics, sequencing, molecular biology, or gene editing
• Familiarity with BI tools and data visualization
