Principal R&D Technical Project Manager

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional matrix teams including engineers, designers, and procurement specialists to deliver complex, first-of-a-kind fusion energy systems
• Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, including scope, goals, deliverables, resources, and timelines
• Act as the primary technical liaison between the executive team, internal engineering departments, and external partners
• Monitor project timelines rigorously and implement mitigation strategies to address potential delays or schedule conflicts
• Drive decision-making and operational execution to ensure project results align with company strategic objectives
• Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture through servant leadership

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 20+ years of professional experience, with at least 10 years managing teams for the development of first-of-a-kind products
• Proven expertise in project management, including risk, budget, scope, and stakeholder management
• Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to various levels of proficiency
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical activities such as climbing or standing
• Willingness to travel and work irregular hours, including nights or weekends as required

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing projects using Jira and Confluence (Atlassian tools)
• Familiarity with phase-gated engineering lifecycles and risk management frameworks
• Experience with cryogenics, high vacuum, or power distribution systems
• Proven track record of managing multi-functional teams to strict budgets
