About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute advanced nanoscale characterization experiments using STM/STS, APT, and TEM
  • Extract atomic-scale and electronic structure information regarding interface quality, composition, and superconducting properties
  • Establish a structure-to-device feedback loop to link nanoscale measurements to qubit performance metrics
  • Lead experimental campaigns at U.S. national laboratories and shared instrumentation facilities
  • Provide technical direction across materials, fabrication, and device teams
  • Develop high-throughput data acquisition and AI-enabled analysis pipelines

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in an industry or R&D environment
  • Expertise in at least one of the following: STM/STS, Atom probe tomography (APT), or Transmission electron microscopy (TEM)
  • Ability to meet Microsoft and government security screening requirements, including export control regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or Materials Engineering
  • Experience with semiconductor-superconductor hybrid materials or quantum-relevant systems
  • Experience interpreting complex nanoscale structural and electronic datasets
  • Ability to apply AI/ML tools for image analysis, feature extraction, and defect classification
  • Background in correlating nanoscale structure with device or quantum performance
  • Familiarity with MBE growth, nanofabrication, or low-temperature transport measurements
