Principal Product Manager, Search

Responsibilities

• Chart the long-term search strategy and own a multi-year roadmap spanning query understanding, retrieval, ranking, and results presentation.
• Partner with ML Engineering and Applied Research to translate cutting-edge research into production systems using semantic embeddings and real-time behavioral signals.
• Define and monitor critical success metrics, including query success rate, zero-result rate, click-through, and downstream conversion.
• Balance short-term relevance improvements with the long-term goal of building an extensible search platform aligned with the company's AI strategy.
• Synthesize experiment results, query analytics, and user feedback to inform product prioritization and feature design.
• Communicate requirements and expected impact clearly to align product, engineering, design, and executive stakeholders.

Requirements

• 8+ years of product management experience.
• 5+ years leading search or recommendations products in a high-traffic consumer environment.
• Deep technical fluency in ML/AI, including familiarity with retrieval and ranking algorithms, embeddings, and feature stores.
• Demonstrated success shipping ML-driven features that impact core business metrics like engagement, conversion, or revenue.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to thrive in ambiguous environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on proficiency with SQL and a scripting language such as Python or R.
• Experience designing LLM- and GenAI-enhanced user experiences.
• Familiarity with modern ML operations tooling, including vector databases and MLOps/LLMOps workflows.
• A genuine passion for the written word and democratizing access to knowledge.
