About the role
About the Company
Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to 5 years without refueling.
Responsibilities
- Own power system architectural design for microreactor-based power generation systems in grid-connected and islanded modes
- Develop single-line diagrams and FMEAs to identify system behavior and redundancy paths
- Evaluate system behavior during disturbances such as load steps, faults, and loss-of-generation events
- Size energy storage systems for reactor cold start and variable load demands
- Manage synchronization of multiple reactors in microgrids and grid-tied configurations
- Collaborate cross-functionally with power conversion, controls, and nuclear teams
- Participate in SIL, HIL, and system-level testing to validate performance
- Ensure regulatory compliance and power quality verification
Requirements
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in power or control systems
- 5+ years of experience in power systems design for generation, microgrids, or mission-critical systems
- Experience sizing and integrating high-voltage battery systems with power electronics
- Proficiency with power system modeling tools such as PSCAD, ETAP, PSS®E, or Simulink
- Strong understanding of inverters, grid converters, DC/DC converters, and rotating generation
- Experience analyzing system stability, protection behavior, and fault response
- Ability to work 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Experience with high-power, medium-voltage equipment (transformers, switchgear, inverters)
- Familiarity with IEEE or utility interconnection standards and grid codes
- Experience in nuclear, aerospace, or defense industries
- Experience mentoring junior engineers
