Principal Platform Engineer

First Resonance builds the ION Factory OS — the operating system powering next-generation manufacturing for companies building rockets, satellites, eVTOLs, clean energy systems, robotics, and autonomous vehicles. We are a group of software, hardware, and manufacturing engineers bringing modern UX and data science to the industrial sector.

Responsibilities

• Own platform architecture at scale to support growth in customers and data volume
• Drive reliability and uptime through SLOs/SLIs, incident response, and capacity planning
• Identify systemic performance bottlenecks across databases, APIs, and caching
• Provide technical assessment of infrastructure proposals and incoming changes
• Create scalable primitives, libraries, and tooling to enable product teams to ship faster
• Improve monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and deployment safety
• Mentor engineers on architecture and operational maturity
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Security, and field-deployed engineers

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Significant experience owning backend/platform systems in production
• Demonstrated experience building and operating high-availability, high-uptime services
• Strong systems thinking across distributed systems, databases, caching, queues, and cloud infrastructure
• Track record of leading large technical initiatives across teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience as a Staff or Principal Engineer at a high-scale infrastructure organization
• Depth in SRE, performance engineering, or database scalability
• Experience building internal platforms, CI/CD, or shared services
• Experience or affinity for manufacturing, industrial software, or hard-tech environments
