Principal Optical Fiber Architect

Responsibilities

• Technical Lead of the fiber distribution network for current and future system designs
• Define end-to-end system fiber link architecture connecting subsystems, PICs and control systems
• Establish design principles for ultra-low-loss links, length stability, phase and polarization stability
• Address thermal drift, vibration sensitivity, and mechanical stability across fiber networks
• Define guidelines for fiber routing, splicing, connectorization, cleanliness, and handling
• Work with cross-functional teams including quantum architects, electronics, mechanical, and thermal teams
• Evaluate and qualify advanced fiber optic components from vendors
• Lead build and test prototypes and maintain BOM
• Lead validation test plans and deliver proof of concept to productization
• Use Python scripting to call Controls SW APIs/drivers for lab equipment

Requirements

• M.S. or PhD in Physics, Optical or Electrical Engineering
• 10+ years of industry experience
• 5+ years experience designing, validating, and testing fiber networks and optical systems
• Deep expertise in fiber optics, loss mechanisms, dispersion, nonlinear effects, and phase stability
• Experience with optical test equipment (power meters, OBR, OSA)
• Experience with software controls in Python
• Experience in product lifecycles from R&D to product development
