Principal ML Engineer

About the Company

Rebar is building the AI operating system for commercial HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing. We are changing the construction industry by building AI-native products that define how the industry operates, backed by a $14M Series A.

Responsibilities

• Design and train deep learning models for layout analysis, object detection, OCR, and multimodal understanding
• Define the long-term technical direction for Rebar's AI capabilities and roadmap
• Drive strategy for dataset creation, labeling, active learning, and synthetic data generation
• Design robust evaluation methodologies and monitor production models for regressions
• Serve as technical lead for complex ML initiatives and mentor engineers
• Partner with product leadership to integrate AI capabilities into the platform

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a relevant field
• 4+ years developing deep learning models using PyTorch or JAX
• 3+ years applying deep learning to computer vision (object detection, segmentation, OCR)
• Proven track record of bringing research ideas into production-grade ML systems
• Experience designing active learning and continuous learning systems
• Ability to lead technically complex initiatives and influence engineering decisions

Preferred Qualifications

• Specialization in computer vision
• Experience with synthetic data generation
• Experience with post-training of LLMs or VLMs (SFT, RLHF, RLVR)
• Experience optimizing models via ONNX, quantization, or CUDA/Triton
• Published research in state-of-the-art deep learning
• Experience building ML platforms or training infrastructure
