Principal Member of Technical Staff, Platform Infrastructure

About the Company

Edison Scientific builds and commercializes AI agents for science. We are assembling a team of top researchers and engineers across AI and biology to build an AI scientist to accelerate scientific discovery.

Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and operate Kubernetes clusters supporting thousands of concurrent, persistent resources
• Design and develop custom resource definitions (CRDs) and Kubernetes operators to manage AI agent lifecycles and research pipelines
• Drive strategy for cluster scaling, node pool management, and autoscaling policies
• Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, Pulumi, or similar
• Design scheduling and affinity strategies to optimize cost and performance for CPU and GPU workloads
• Establish best practices for observability, monitoring, and incident response
• Own storage and networking strategy within Kubernetes, including CSI drivers and service mesh
• Collaborate with backend, ML, and research teams to translate workload requirements into infrastructure patterns

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional infrastructure or platform engineering experience
• Deep hands-on Kubernetes expertise in production environments
• Experience designing and implementing CRDs and Kubernetes operators (Kubebuilder, Operator SDK, or controller-runtime)
• Track record of scaling Kubernetes clusters for stateful or long-running workloads
• Deep understanding of Kubernetes internals (API server, etcd, scheduler, etc.)
• Expertise with cloud infrastructure (AWS EKS, GCP GKE, or Azure AKS)
• Proficiency in at least one systems or backend language
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code and GitOps workflows
• Strong knowledge of container networking, storage, and security (RBAC, secrets management)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with data-intensive platforms, scientific computing, or ML/AI infrastructure
• Prior experience in startups or small teams with high architectural ownership
• Experience scaling systems and platforms through rapid growth
