Principal Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own system-level mechanical architecture and integration for advanced electromechanical platforms
• Lead design, analysis, prototyping, and production release of complex mechanical systems
• Drive DFM, DFA, Design for Automation, and Design for Cost across programs
• Set and enforce best-in-class standards for GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and production drawing release
• Run subsystem trade studies balancing performance, weight, reliability, cost, and manufacturability
• Partner with suppliers to industrialize components across various manufacturing processes
• Oversee first article builds and production validation, including yield improvement and root-cause resolution
• Apply advanced mechanical analysis (FEA, thermal, structural, dynamic) to validate performance
• Support environmental and reliability qualification testing
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and technical problem-solving

Requirements

• Minimum of 12 years of experience in developing and shipping complex mechanical systems
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
• Expert proficiency in Siemens NX
• Deep expertise in GD&T, tolerance analysis, and production drawing release
• Proven track record taking products from concept to industrialization and shipment
• Strong understanding of quality systems and production metrics (IQC, OQC, ORT, CP/CPK, SPC)
• Experience scaling hardware into production across multiple manufacturing technologies
• Ability to lead system-level technical decisions through influence

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in aerospace, transportation, robotics, or high-performance industries
• Familiarity with environmental qualification standards such as DO-160
• Experience with electric or hybrid systems
• Working knowledge of MATLAB or Python for analysis and automation
• Experience in fast-paced R&D or startup environments
