Principal Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical advisor and domain expert, leading the team to optimal designs of spacecraft structures and components
• Identify opportunities to improve performance, reduce mass, lower cost, and improve manufacturability
• Interface with product and business teams to define multi-year roadmaps for mechanical subsystems
• Provide hands-on mentorship to mechanical engineers at all levels
• Define mechanical team standards and best practices
• Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and training of mechanical engineering talent

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience designing, building, and testing flight hardware in the space industry
• Proven track record of managing programs through on-orbit operations
• Strong mentorship and leadership experience
• Expert knowledge of structural mechanics, thermal management, and environmental testing (TVAC, vibration)
• Experience with manufacturing methods including machining, composites, molding, and 3D printing
• Mastery of CAD (SolidWorks preferred), PLM, ERP, and FEA
• Expert-level skills with GD&T, BOMs, FAIs, and tolerance budgets
• B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with deployable structures such as solar arrays or antennas
• Optomechanical instrument or payload design experience
• Software skills in Python or MATLAB
• Experience with ADCS components like reaction wheels or star trackers
• Experience running structural analyses using FEMAP or ANSYS
